Title Water quality and the hazard to health : placarding public beaches
Author Hewings, John M.
Publisher Natural Hazards Research and Applications Information Center, University of Colorado Boulder. (1968)
Abstract This paper examines the role and actions of medical personnel in posting warning notices on public beaches and the information which forms their decisions. In particular, the paper analyzes whether medical officers use non-medical information/considerations in their decisionmaking. Little evidence was found to support the contention that water pollution is related to disease incidence. The effectiveness of placarding in reducing disease incidence is highly questionable.
